Gassing
Gassing / Singeing
A pre-treatment process in which yarn is passed rapidly through a gas flame or over heated plates to burn off protruding fibers and surface fuzz. This makes the yarn smoother and more uniform, improving dye absorption and levelness during subsequent dyeing. Gassing is particularly important for raw cotton yarns before mercerization and dyeing.
