Gassing
Gassing / Singeing
A preliminary treatment before dyeing in which the yarn is passed rapidly through a gas flame or over heated plates to burn off protruding fibres and surface fuzz. This process makes the yarn smoother and more uniform, improving dye absorption and colour evenness during dyeing. Gassing is particularly important for greige cotton yarns before mercerization and dyeing.
